At UMGC, our librarians are here to support students in their academic work with a focus on providing neutral, research-based assistance. Because we serve a diverse university community and represent an academic institution, we’re not able to share personal opinions or participate in interviews on controversial topics like book banning.

However, we encourage you to reach out to public or K-12 school librarians for your project. Most book challenges occur in those settings, and their librarians are directly involved and highly knowledgeable about the topic. They would be excellent sources for your interview.

You might start by contacting a local public library or a school library near you. The Maryland Association of School Librarians provides helpful information on banned books, and the American Library Association also offers a wealth of resources on this subject,

We wish you the best with your research!
